Filmmaker Tim Southam has mined virtually every medium in pursuit of his favourite themes. His fascination with wilderness and rural communities has led him to direct award-winning movies, documentaries and series set on the land. His concern with social justice has generated widely-seen films dealing with major political events and personnalities. A parallel strand of his work focuses on the stage, yielding several internationally acclaimed performing arts films.
His work includes the feature drama The Bay of Love and Sorrows, the feature documentary Drowning in Dreams, the television movies One Dead Indian and The Tale of Teeka, the four-hour miniseries Trudeau: Maverick in the Making, and the stage-inspired films Perreault Dancer, Satie and Suzanne, Inner Voices, and Love Letters. In the works is the movie Labrador Tea.
His series directing work includes Bones (20th Century/ Fox), Flashpoint (CTV/ CBS), Haven (SyFy/Showcase/E1), jPod (CBC) and the entire run of the comedy series Moose TV (Showcase). He has also written for television, notably as a member of the originating story team on Traders (Global).
In addition to several ratings successes, Tim's work has won widespread critical acclaim and many awards, including three best directing Geminis, two best-program Geminis, and nominations for the Genie, DGC, Jutra and Grammy awards.
